We ask that all potential puppy buyers take a few moments to fill out our questionnaire and return to the email address listed below.
Your answers will help us determine suitability of the breed for your family and also gives you an opportunity to tell us what qualities you prefer in a Akita. Once you have submitted your questionnaire we will add your name to our wait list and ask that you contact us for a phone interview. This "getting to know you" process helps us match the right puppy personalities with our buyers' lifestyles.
Select homes who have completed their phone interview may decide to reserve a puppy by placing a deposit. Homes who have placed deposits will be first in line for puppy placements.
RESERVATIONS/DEPOSITS- Prior to whelping an expected litter, we will accept deposits on a
first in first available puppy of desired sex/quality. It is to your benefit to send in
your deposit promptly. If, upon the litter's arrival, there are more than four puppies, we
will once again open the reservation process. Please note that reservations for puppies
are restricted to only those prospective buyers who have paid their deposit and have
signed our Deposit Agreement.
Should a breeding not produce your specified gender (as indicated on deposit agreement), deposit will be placed against the next available litter. Final determinations on structure and temperament cannot be made until eight weeks of age. Priority on our reservation list will be given to show/breeding homes over companion/pet homes. Please read a copy of our deposit agreement for more details.
Show vs. Pet
At Excel Shu-Ku Akitas all of our dogs/puppies are ONLY placed in pre-approved lifetime homes only. Companions are placed on strict spay/neuter contracts-show potentials require a serious show commitment.
Puppies are either sold on a spay/neuter contract as wonderful companions not suitable
for showing or on a co-ownership contract for showing/breeding prospects. All
show/breeding prospects shall remain on a co-ownership basis until the owner has fulfilled
provisions as stated in sales contract. Puppy may also need to be evaluated by the breeder
as two years of age to determine suitability for breeding.
Full ownership may be considered for serious, experienced and proven Akita exhibitors.
Can I pick my own Puppy?
Our puppies are carefully evaluated for temperament and adherence to the breed standard. Due to our experience with Akitas and the time we have spent with each individual puppy, we feel that we are in the best position to decide which puppy best suits your family's needs. We request that all potential owners complete our Puppy Buyer's Questionnaire. Please contact us via email for your copy.
